Felipe Carballo's Injury Update

This week, South Ward had the opportunity to speak with New York Red Bulls Designated Player, Felipe Carballo, the 28 Uruguayan midfielder, who is on loan with RBNY until June 30,2025, provided fans with an update regrading the foot injury he sustained during 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs. Felipe mentioned that his foot was not 100% and during the Eastern Conference Semifinal against NYCFC, Felipe’s foot had to be anesthetized for him to start that game, Felipe’s presence was crucial for the team as Felipe surprised every fan in the stadium at Citi Field, scoring New York Red Bulls’s first goal of the match 16 minutes into the game.

Felipe Carballo explained that taking the risk to play the Eastern Conference Semifinal injured, aggravated his foot, New York Red Bulls will go on to play the Eastern Conference Final against Orlando City SC, without the Uruguayan DP. Felipe stated that the plan was for him to rest the week of the Eastern Conference Final, because he knew that the team was going to win the game, and possibly be available to play the MLS Cup Final.

Unfortunately for him, and all New York Red Bulls fans, the week of the final Felipe Carballo suffered an appendicitis, and was forced to get appendectomy days before the MLS Cup Final against LA Galaxy. Since then, Felipe Carballo has remained sidelined until New York Red Bull’s last preseason match against San Diego FC on February 15, 2025, where Felipe came on as a substitute.

When asked about how ready is he to play the season opener against FC Cincinnati, Felipe Carballo mentioned that he is 85% ready to play in the match, he continued by saying that he still needs time to be 100% physically and technically fit, since he just returned to training with the team a few days ago.
